Artist Bio

Hometown: Hutchinson, KS

Like most artists, drawing and creating things has pretty much been my life. After getting a degree in Graphic Design from Kansas State University, I went on to get an Art Education degree from Wichita State University, teaching high school Art for 14 years.

Summers afforded three months to travel, explore and have adventures. When summers weren’t quite long enough to squeeze in an epic trip, quitting work altogether seemed a logical move. After biking half way around the world, and resigning from teaching for the second time in 2015, the realization came that though working with kids in the classroom was fun, traveling and having adventures was really what life was about. Now some eight years later, the line between making a living and what I do for fun is unrecognizable. My artwork is an expression of this pursuit: a long-time dream to create original art inspired by adventure and share it with the world while living a fun, meaningful and adventurous life.

Traveling around the country and the world, inspiration comes from literally everywhere. No matter how large or small and insignificant a person, a place, a thing…or a moment may seem, inspiration is there, it just takes a willing eye to see, and appreciate it.

All the trips I have taken over the past 25 years have had a tremendous impact on my art and who I have become as a person.

Equally as valuable as world travel, the exploration of “self” and of the mind has given me as much profound inspiration as any outward adventure could ever conceive of. Massive shifts in cosmic consciousness, through the guidance of a medicine man, have changed my life in the most improbable ways, making way for an entirely new body of art, an entirely new way of seeing this existence…and an entirely new ME.

Someone recently said of me “he’s finally lost my mind” but I know what they really meant was that I’ve finally found it. Finally.

Artist Statement

SEEDS OF THE BREAKAWAY

There are those who go their entire earthly lives believing they are somehow separate from the rest of the universe...it is out there, and “I” am in here…in this body.

However, through shifts in consciousness, one is opened up to an entirely new reality where it is overwhelmingly evident that we did not come into this world, we came out of it. Moreover, the idea of the universe being separate from us could not feel more foreign to me, replaced instead with the profound sensation that we are the universe, expressing itself…becoming aware of itself through human consciousness. My work is not an attempt to understand this reality, but simply to express it.

The art in this exhibition is not entirely my own. You see, I sense that there is a swirling flow of thoughts, emotions, sensations, ideas and dreams of every living thing that has ever been anywhere in the universe, floating out there in the vastness of all consciousness. I simply close my eyes, reach up, and snatch a handful out of the stream. Art flows through this body and out these fingertips onto paper. All I can really take credit for is presenting it in a way that is visible to the human eye, and provocative to the human heart and mind.
